About this variety
Dorstenia crispa, often called shield flower, is a compact member of the mulberry family grown for its sculptural base, textured foliage, and unusual flat flower structures. Plants raised from seed can vary naturally in leaf shape, colour, and growth habit.
Sow the seeds on the surface of a clean, free-draining mix suitable for caudiciform or succulent plants. Press them gently into place and cover only very lightly. Keep the medium warm, evenly moist but never waterlogged, and provide bright filtered light. A covered tray can help retain humidity during early germination, but open it regularly for fresh air and remove the cover gradually after seedlings appear.
Young plants benefit from careful watering, good ventilation, and protection from harsh midday sun. Allow the upper layer of the mix to begin drying between waterings as the seedlings establish. Avoid cold, saturated soil. Pot on gently when roots are developed enough to hold the growing medium together.
Package contents: 20 seeds.
