- Watering: Requires consistent watering during early growth but reduce irrigation during fruit ripening to enhance sweetness.
- Sunlight: Full sun exposure is essential for vigorous vine growth and fruit development.
- Fertilization: Use organic compost or balanced fertilizers to support healthy growth and fruit production.
Planting and Care
1. Seed Germination: Sow seeds directly into the soil, 1 inch deep, spaced appropriately. Germination occurs in 7-10 days.
2. Spacing: Space plants 3-4 feet apart in rows spaced 6 feet apart to allow for vine spreading.
3. Pollination: Relies on natural pollinators like bees. Hand-pollination can improve yields if needed.
4. Support: While vines naturally spread on the ground, using mulch can help prevent fruit rot and weed growth.
Harvest and Storage
Watermelon Crimson Sweet is ready to harvest 80-85 days after sowing. Fruits are ripe when the underside turns a creamy yellow, and the tendril closest to the fruit dries up. Harvest carefully to avoid bruising. Store harvested melons in a cool, dry place for up to two weeks or refrigerate for extended freshness.
