Phaseolus lunatus L. is the accepted botanical name for Lima bean, a scrambling annual or perennial in the bean family (Fabaceae).

Big White Lima Bean and Butter Bean are retained as the commercial lot names. No cultivar, growth habit or geographic origin is independently certified.

Growing Context

Use warm soil, full sun and good drainage. Some Lima bean lines climb while others are compact; provide support if the developing plants require it.
